ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – UNM head coach Richard Pitino said it was arguably the best starts to a game in a his coaching career. After opening its game against Boise State on an 8-0 run, New Mexico closed out the first half on a 14-0 run and took a 27 point lead into halftime. The Lobos won the game 84-65. Part of New Mexico's explosive start was thanks to a big defensive effort. The Lobos scored 22 fast break points and 17 points off of turnovers while the Broncos had zero in both categories. UNM also had one of its best shooting performances of the season. The Lobos converted on 31-57 (54.4%) from the field and 7-15 (46.7%) from three-point range. Additionally, UNM made 15-15 free throws. For the game, the Lobos had four players score in double-figures. Donovan Dent and Nelly Junior Joseph led the charge with 16 points each. Dent recorded seven assists and Junior Joseph racked up nine rebounds. Tru Washington scored 13 and Mustapha Amzil scored 11. Filip Borovicanin led the game with 10 rebounds. He also scored nine points. With the win, New Mexico improved to 7-1 in the Mountain West and 15-4 overall. Up next for the team is a home game against Fresno State on Monday at 3 p.m. That game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
