WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The TikTok ban is being upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, with the law affecting the app set to take effect Sunday. The app could start to slow down, or users could be blocked from using it entirely. There's still uncertainty in Washington as to whether the app will go away for good. The app's impending shutdown is having an impact locally. What started as a dancing app has evolved into an advertising tool. A lot of local businesses and content creators in Wichita use TikTok. TikTok helped one Wichita foodie turn his passion into a job. "You are able to get that reach. You are able to make that content and find your following of people," said Christopher Jackson of Jackstacks.eats. Posting across social media platforms, he promotes local restaurants, particularly in the Wichita area. "Having TikTok gone and just 56,000 followers... and just not get the same engagement is gonna be a big blow," Jackson said. Hundreds get free dental work, but others must come back Saturday Even those who don't have followers in the tens of thousands find the app to be a useful tool. "It has given me some new clients," said Tamra Provines, owner of OWN Real Estate. "I would say my online presence is something that has given be a fourth of my business." She says TikTok helps her connect with younger customers. She's tracking where those younger customers flock to online. "It's so important to adapt and recreate over time, because if there's one thing that's constant it is change," Provines said. Troy Russell uses TikTok for his brand, his food blog "Food Local" and for clients for his videography business. "I'll be surprised if there even is a ban that goes through," Russell said. There is some uncertainty still on if the ban will go through or not. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed interest in keeping the app open for use.
