Early morning rain then snow, temps start falling
Jan 17, 2025
The warmest conditions of the week occurred Friday afternoon with high temperatures rising all the way to the mid-40s. But, this warm-up is very short-lived. Starting Saturday morning and continuing through the day, and through Sunday, too, our temps will gradually decrease.
Rain is making its move through the region during the early morning and the rain continues until around 5 am. At this point, we'll start to see the rainfall changeover to snowfall. Periods of snow showers will continue to be possible through the day and into the night. This is because, as the main system, a cold front, moves east, northwesterly winds behind it will generate some lake effect snow showers. The widespread snow, though, from the incoming system will move east by around 9 am Saturday morning.
Rain changes to snow a few hours before sunrise.
Total snow accumulation will be light, less than 1". However, with this snow on the ground and temps falling below freezing, roads and sidewalks may be slick and slippery.
A light amount of snow on the ground Saturday morning may make travel slick in a number of locations.
Our Saturday temperatures fall all day from our sunrise high temperatures in the mid-30s down to the middle 20s by early evening.
Temperatures continue to decrease overnight into early Sunday with a morning low in the teens that becomes Sunday's high temperature, as well.
15 Fury Alert Days issued for extreme cold
Temperatures keep falling through the teens during the day Sunday with extremely cold air making its move into the region. Lows will fall to below zero Monday morning. Wind chills will be anywhere from -10 to -20 all day long Monday. The same is true for Tuesday. As a result, 15 Fury Alert Days are in effect due to this extreme cold on both Monday and Tuesday.
A COLD blast of winter air arrives early next week.
Wednesday morning begins with temps a few degrees below zero, but we rise to the upper teens before the day is done. This is the start of a warm-up that will take us back to more seasonal conditions by the end of the week.
