NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS — An Arctic blast will bring dangerously cold temperatures to much of the country next week. An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect beginning late Sunday night through Wednesday morning along and west of the Blue Ridge. Temperatures may drop below zero with wind chills as low as 15 below zero.In an effort to simplify weather communication, the National Weather Service has renamed some terms when it comes to winter weather warnings.
