Lockdown lifted at UC San Diego as police find no threat to campus

People were asked to avoid the northern portion of UC San Diego for several hours on Friday as campus police and area law enforcement searched for a possibly armed person.
The lockdown was lifted around 1:15 p.m. after police found no threat to the campus.
The search followed what a school spokesperson said was an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers reporting that a female was being held against her will.
San Diego police pinged the female’s cellphone and determined the phone was in the area of LionTree Arena, the spokesperson said.
San Diego police said university police asked them to assist in the search shortly after 9:30 a.m. Later authorities released a name and photo of a person of interest.
The school sent an alert asking students, faculty and staff to stay inside, lock their doors and avoid the RIMAC/LionTree Arena area and the northern end of the sprawling campus.
The person of interest, a man, was ultimately contacted off campus, and the alert was canceled. A school spokesperson said neither person is associated with UC San Diego.
