Rochester man in Carrabba's police shootout sentenced 40 years to life

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The man involved in a police shootout inside a Henrietta restaurant has been sentenced.
Alonzo Jones, 36, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. He was convicted in December 2023 for trying to shoot and kill a deputy inside Carrabba's Italian Grill on West Henrietta Road.
In June 2022, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to the restaurant for the report of an armed man. They found Jones behind the bar, which led to him pulling a revolver out and shooting at the deputies, nearly shooting Deputy Nicholas Cooper in the head.
Deputies returned fire and arrested Jones. Nobody was injured in the shooting.
“This is the second sentencing this week of an attempted murder of a police officer,” District Attorney Sandra Doorley said in a statement. “This is an appropriate sentence, given that this could have resulted in the murder of a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy and the many innocent patrons of the restaurant.
Jones was charged with attempted aggravated murder, attempted aggravated assault upon a police or peace officer, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was originally supposed to be sentenced last year, but it was postponed.
