SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- UC San Diego issued an emergency alert Friday morning after reports of an armed suspect on campus, the university announced. The alert was sent out to students and staff around 11 a.m., with campus authorities advising those at the university to avoid the north campus area if possible, specifically noting a "police emergency" in the RIMAC/LionTree Arena area. The emergency alert also noted that there was a "possible armed suspect" and that those on campus should "lock doors and stay inside." A spokesperson from UCSD told FOX 5/KUSI that San Diego Crime Stoppers had received an anonymous call reporting that a female was being held against her will. Authorities were able to pinged her cell phone, leading them to the vicinity of the LionTree Arena. UC San Diego police, along with San Diego police, were reported to be on the scene and are searching the area. The UCSD spokesperson also stated, "This is not currently an active shooter situation." At 1:15 p.m., UCSD tweeted that a suspect has been contacted off campus. The university added there is no ongoing threat to campus.
