'Sporadic technical issues' impact KDOL website
Jan 17, 2025
TOPEKA (KSNT) - With the deadline for filing unemployment benefits at the end of the month, the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) says it will waive any penalties incurred from "sporadic technical issues" with the department's website.
27 News reached out to the KDOL on Jan. 17 to see if technical difficulties with its website would impact businesses in the state. KDOL reported that it is having technical issues with its Employer Portal. The department said the problems could impact businesses trying to file but recommends people be patient as it works to solve the issues.
With tax season approaching, the deadline for employers to file wage statements and forms for independent contractors with the government is Jan. 31. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), penalties for not filing range from $60 to $660 depending on how late it is.
"If delays in submitting your reports are due to system-related issues, we will review each situation carefully," said KDOL Communications Director Becky Shaffer. "Any late penalties resulting from these delays will be waived once the cause is confirmed to be system-related."
