HOLYOKE, Mass (WWLP) - Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia has officially announced his re-election bid for the Mayor of Holyoke, guided by his principles of connecting, building, and growing. He told 22News, that the number one priority continues to be focused on the inner-operability of the government, making sure the city's government runs smoothly and efficiently. Mayor Garcia said the campaign season is a time to connect with the community. This is a way to "understand from the community whether or not we're moving in the direction they want their city to go" said Mayor Garcia. "So, it's a reconnecting process, that I am very much looking to do." Some of the bigger accomplishments during his term are the public schools leaving state receivership and entering local control, the audit of the police department, and the hiring of a new chief. Other accomplishments he noted from his time as Mayor include securing funding for traffic safety programs, investing over $10 million in public building upgrades and parks as well as securing $200 million for new school construction and renovations and a future clean energy factory coming to Holyoke. The Major said he will officially launch his re-election campaign in late February.
