LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man is charged with 19 counts including multiple motor vehicle offenses and unlawful possession of a firearm following an incident in Ludlow, police say.
In a news release from Ludlow Police Chief Daniel Valadas, at around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, an officer observed a gray Acura MDX traveling eastbound on Chapin Street crash into a mailbox. The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Dayne Bennett, then drove off and was allegedly found to be speeding approximately 15 miles over the area's posted speed limit.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however Bennett was observed to be driving erratically and crashed into a Honda Pilot at the intersection of Chapin Street and Sportsman's Road. One of the occupants in the Honda was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is expected to recover.
Bennett attempted to again drive away but lost control before crashing into a cement bridge abutment on the other side of the intersection. The airbags deployed, immobilizing the vehicle.
When officers approached the vehicle Bennett was in, a firearm could be seen on the floor of the driver's seat. The gun was loaded at the time and Bennett did not have a license to carry a firearm or ammunition. His driver's license was also suspended.

Chief Valadas said that this is the second incident this week involving a motor vehicle pursuit. On Monday, officers stopped a stolen 2025 BMW Sedan with two people inside. After initially stopping, the driver drove away towards the Mass. Pike at an extremely high rate of speed. The pursuit was called off due to the threat to other motorists.
“These serious criminal acts illustrate the daily risk and danger that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. I commend my officers involved with these cases and their perseverance in protecting our community," said Chief Valadas.
