Big Y, Red Cross partnering for California fire relief

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-- One local business is looking for your help in supporting those impacted by the devastating fires in Los Angeles.
Big Y will be collecting cash donations for American Red Cross Disaster Relief at all Big Y supermarkets in Massachusetts and Connecticut. People can donate at collection containers located at Big Y registers, with credit or debit at the register, via the myExpress Checkout app, or on the Big Y website. Collections will run from now until January 31.

"The American Red Cross is focused on making sure everyone has a safe place to stay,and no one faces this heartbreaking crisis alone,” said Holly Grant, Chief Executive Officer,American Red Cross Massachusetts Region. “The Red Cross is working closely with ourpartners to provide safe shelter, food, emotional support and other critical services to thosein need.”
According to President and CEO Michael P. D’Amour, "For years, our Big Y customersand employees have come together to support those in need through the Red Cross.Currently, their kindness and ongoing contributions are making a meaningful difference inthe lives of families affected by these wildfires. We are deeply thankful for everyone’sgenerosity and commitment to helping those facing this devastation.”
Nia Rennix with the Central-Western Massachusetts Chapter of the American Red Cross tells 22News, "We don't know when it's going to be our turn. We don't know when one day a wildfire or another type of disaster will affect us. So it's important to think about those that get affected, those that, you know, have lost, you know, everything."
Funds raised will go directly to help people in the fire-impacted communities.
