A 36-year-old Corona resident was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 15, a day after police say he fired a shot at another motorist following a traffic collision.
The confrontation happened on Jan. 14 on Promenade Avenue. The victim said a white Nissan Pathfinder drove into the bicycle lane and sideswiped his car.
“When the victim pulled alongside the Nissan to confront the driver, the suspect lowered his window and pointed a handgun at him,” Corona police said in a Facebook post. “Fearing for his safety, the victim immediately drove away and lost sight of the suspect vehicle. Upon meeting with officers, bullet fragments confirmed that a single gunshot had struck the victim’s rear passenger window.”
The victim was not struck by the gunfire.
Police used information gathered from its camera system and vice unit to identify a suspect. The SWAT team arrested him after serving a search warrant. A gun was found in his car, police said. He was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, according to the Riverside County jail log.
