RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A new traffic signal will be activated on Cumberland Street and Laurel Street. According to DPW, if weather permits, over the course of the week, the signal will be active and temporarily set in flashing mode to notify drivers about the new traffic pattern. It is highly encouraged by the department for drivers to be mindful of the following: Those driving on Cumberland Street will see flashing yellow signals and will no longer stop Those driving on Laurel Street will see flashing red signals and must stop DPW said the flashing mode will give drivers and pedestrians the chance to adjust to the new traffic pattern for a week before it transitions into a full functioning signal-controlled intersection. During the construction process, DPW will implement an intermittent lane and sidewalk closures that the department is urging the public to follow. The department said the project is expected to be completed by Fall 2025. For more information, visit The Department of Public Works website.
