Recalled smoke alarms can malfunction, fail to alert of fire
Jan 17, 2025
(WPRI) — More than 300,000 mini smoke alarms are being recalled because they can malfunction and fail to alert in the event of a fire, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The CPSC performed smoke sensitivity tests on Three61's Samurai Mini Smoke Alarms and found that one of them failed to alert when exposed to pre-determined concentrations of smoke.
The recalled smoke detectors were sold exclusively on HSN.com in packs of two or three with lithium-ion batteries, adhesive stickers, screws, mounting plates and an instruction manual.
Three61 has received eight reports of the alarms failing to activate in the presence of smoke. No injuries have been reported.
The smoke detectors have model number SM1 printed on the packaging.
Anyone who purchased the recalled smoke detectors is urged to contact Three61 for instructions on how to receive a free replacement. The recalled smoke detectors should remain in place until the replacement arrives.
