Birth Nov. 15, 1953Springfield, MADeath 2024Essex Junction, VT It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Robert W. Bassett, 71, of Essex Junction, VT.Born in Springfield, MA, he was the eldest child of Dorothy M. and Harold J. Bassett.Upon graduation from Berea High School, Berea OH, Robert went on to study engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN., where he completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering. He was a lifelong proud supporter of the university, most especially the basketball program.Robert immediately began what became a lifelong career with IBM – first in Rochester, MN, transferring in 1982 to the location in Essex, Vermont. He retired, after 39 years, when the local facility closed.He was a proud member of the IEEE community and an accomplished VSLI design/test engineer.Bob is survived by his sister Anne Bassett of Biddeford Pool, ME, who would like to add a personal note of gratitude to the local group of retirees who he met with for monthly luncheons.
