MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Shelby County School Board is expected to vote on whether to fire Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins next week. Now some county commissioners are calling for town hall meetings to slow down the termination process, even as the board is allegedly lining up an interim superintendent. The school board has called a special meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 21 to address the termination resolution that was put on hold last month. WREG has received documents that before a vote to terminate takes place, there will be a report by an unnamed outside counsel. Right now, it's not not publicly known who is on the counsel and what they are expected to say.   According to the school board's agenda for next week,"if necessary," the board will select an interim superintendent after deciding if Dr. Feagins will keep her job or not. In fact, WREG has received documents from several sources saying the principal's association has sent out a survey allegedly asking school principals who they'd like the school board to appoint as interim superintendent to finish the school year.    Some of the names mentioned: Tito Langston, Dr. Janice Tankson, Dr. Angela Whitelaw and Dr. Rod Richmond. Feagins fires back in response to school board allegations Earlier this week, board member Amber Huett-Garcia presented a counter resolution to keep Dr. Feagins. "I stand firm in giving more time to Dr. Feagins," she said. Board member Michelle McKissack also took Feagins' side: "It's really shocking to me that there's no sense of being conciliatory at all. Just being hell bent, hell bent on dismissing this superintendent." WREG has also learned several Shelby County Commissioners — some of whom called for a no confidence vote for the school board — are hoping they'll slow down their efforts to terminate Dr. Feagins. ‘Nuclear option’: State leaders consider takeover of Memphis schools over Feagins issue Many are asking the school board to hold town hall meetings in their districts before a final vote. "I do not support this fast reaction that we have to let the superintendent go without really letting the community have known what's really going on with all the facts," County Commissioner Charlie Caswell said. "So I'm hoping that they (MSCS school board) will listen, and we can come together and give the community a chance to have a voice at this." That MSCS school board meeting and vote on the future of Dr. Feagins is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
