With a high of 46°, Friday was the warmest day of the year. Along with sunny skies, strong winds from the south boosted our temperatures ahead of a cold front that is on the way. Temperatures will stay in the 30s and rain will spread across the state this evening after 9 p.m. as the front approaches. Up to a quarter-inch of rain will fall, and the combination of rain and mild air will help to continue melting the snowpack across central Indiana. Cold air will dive in after 4 a.m. the rain will change to a mix of rain and snow, before changing completely to snow by sunrise. Light accumulation is likely along and north of I-70 where 1 to 2 inches of snow may accumulate. It will be a windy Saturday with temperatures falling below freezing in the afternoon. Behind the cold front Sunday will be a cloudy day with highs in the teens. The first two days of next week will be difficult as bitter cold air and dangerously cold wind chills set in. Morning lows will be below 0° and highs will be between 5° and 10° degrees. Winds chills -10° to -20° in some locations will be possible. Temperatures will moderate next week with highs in the 20s Wednesday and in the 30s Thursday. January has been a cold, snowy month and more than a dozen counties are still under Travel Advisories due to icy roads. Up to a quarter-inch of rain is likely through Saturday morning. Rain will change to snow Saturday morning. Light snow will accumulate Saturday morning, mainly north of I-70. Sunday will be a cloudy, cold day. The coldest air of the season is on the way for early next week.
