What's open in Hawaii on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- State and City and County of Honolulu offices will be closed on Monday, January 20, in observance of the holiday. However, several services and facilities will remain operational.

Emergency services, including police, fire, lifeguards, and emergency medical services, will continue as usual. The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office will also be open.
TheBus will operate on a Saturday schedule, and riders can check routes and times at thebus.org. The Skyline will run on a state holiday schedule from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; more details are available here.
Refuse collection, along with operations at transfer stations, convenience centers, H-POWER, and the Waimānalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill, will continue as scheduled. For more information, visit their website.
City Council eyes firework crack down
Local parks, botanical gardens, and municipal golf courses will remain open. For park guidelines, check the Parks & Recreation website. The Honolulu Zoo will also be open, for more visitor information click here.
However, the Neal S. Blaisdell Center box office will be closed, and People’s Open Markets will not operate. All satellite city halls and driver licensing centers will also be closed.
For those planning to park, restrictions will be in place in Lanikai from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the three-day weekend.
While on-street parking will be free, metered parking remains in effect on Kalākaua Avenue along Queen Kapiolani Park and select streets in Waikīkī. Traffic lanes will not be coned for contraflow.
