HOUSTON (CW39) -- Power is essential in Texas during any major weather event in our area. As Greater Houston, surrounding counties and all of Southeast Texas prepares for the upcoming freeze, we asked the people in charge - just how much of this essential energy and power is there and is it enough to go around? After the freeze of February in 2021, when many communities lost power for several days, Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which manages the flow of electric power to more than 27 MILLION Texas customers has been at work to make sure that doesn't happen again. While ERCOT represents about 90% of the state’s electric load, how can you determine how much energy is being used and how much is available? Through the Supply and Demand graphical provided by ERCOT. It shows the system’s current power supply (capacity) and demand at a moment in time, using Real-Time data. It also gives a projected power supply (capacity) and demand from hourly forecasts and seasonal forecasts.  CW39 Anchor Sharron Melton explains above. Then go to the Supply and Demand Graph at the ERCOT link. ERCOT ERCOT
