AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin FC's all-time leading goal scorer is returning home. Sebastian Driussi, the first Major League Soccer all-star in club history and scorer of 51 goals over 115 appearances, has been transferred to River Plate in Argentina. Driussi began his professional career River Plate's U20 and reserve team in 2013, then broke through to the senior team in 2014. The club paid $10 million to CF Monterrey for forward Brandon Vasquez and is expected to shell out around $12 million for forward Myrto Uzuni from Granada CF in Spain. The club also brought in midfielder Nicolas Dubersarsky from the Argentine club Institutio ACC for $3 million. "Sebastián leaves Austin FC having made a tremendous impact on this Club during his three-and-a-half years here," Austin FC sporting director Rodolfo Borrell said. "We wish him and his family nothing but the best as they return to Argentina. He will always be welcomed with open arms in Austin." (AP Photo/Michael Thomas) Driussi finished second in MLS MVP voting in 2022 after a career season, scoring 25 goals with five assists in 37 matches, helping Austin make it to the Western Conference finals in the club's lone playoff appearance. Driussi came to Austin FC from the Russian side Zenit-St. Petersburg in 2021 for roughly $6.5 million in transfer fees. Austin FC opens the 2025 MLS regular season at home Feb. 22 against Sporting Kansas City.
