ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Ontario County Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning about the latest phone scam going around. This time, residents are receiving calls claiming a deputy or sergeant is on the other end of the line, calling about a missed court appearance or jury duty. The scammers are claiming you need to pay a fine via Apple Pay or PayPal. The Sheriff's Office is advising that neither deputies, nor any court, will ask for payment over the phone, and to avoid sharing any personal information. Instead, recipients of such calls, should hang up and place a call of their own, to the Sheriff's Office, at 585-394-4560.
