ALMA (KSNT) - A historic landmark in northeast Kansas dating back to the late 1800's is set to reopen to the public next month after undergoing extensive renovation work.
Tyler Holloman with Frontier Development Group said in a press release that the Brandt House in Alma will be the site of a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. People are invited to attend this opening ceremony and stay from noon to 1 p.m. to explore the building.
The Brandt House can be found at 402 Missouri Avenue and represents a significant piece of the local history of Alma. The Kansas Historical Society (KSHS) lists the building, which was finished in 1887, as being on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) maintained by the National Park Service (NPS).

Joseph and Cristena Brandt built the two-story hotel out of native stone on a prominent corner in Alma, according to the KSHS. The Brandt House is recognized for its ties to the development of Alma's downtown area and its Italianate-style characteristics such as ornamental pressed metal cornice and smooth-cut stone blocks. The building gained a spot on the NRHP in 2008.
The Brandt House was one of many local tourist attractions to receive cash from the Kansas Department of Commerce (KDC) in 2023. It received more than $73,000 in state dollars through the KDC's Attraction Development Grants to help with its restoration.
