RILEY COUNTY (KSNT) - Riley County Historical Museum Director Katharine Hensler and Museum Curator Melanie Highsmith joined the 27 News morning show to discuss some recent major renovations. Museum staff have updated many exhibits for the first time since the 1970s. Hensler said a committee was formed about six months ago to build the story that's told through the updated exhibit. "We really decided we have got to do something the way that interpretation and storytelling works now is very different than what it worked in the 70s," Hensler said. "And so our initial decision to do this was just that we have to tell these stories of Riley County better than we have." Traffic impacted after cattle trailer rollover on I-70 Hensler said the museum has started working with the local community to mark the museum's 50th anniversary next year. The museum will be closed until Saturday, Feb. 8 for the renovations. Hensler said a reopening event will be held exclusively for the county's historical society members. She said if you want to become a member to contact the museum. You can contact the Riley County Historical Museum at 785-565-6490 or through email by clicking here.
