Snowstorm to hit Massachusetts Sunday ahead of below zero temperatures
Jan 17, 2025
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The 22News Storm Team is tracking the chance of snow for Sunday evening through Sunday night.
Friday will be a partly to a mostly sunny day with a light breeze from the southwest with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. Friday evening will be dry, with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. Overnight temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s.

Saturday looks to be dry in the morning with rain and snow showers in the afternoon and evening. This looks to be mostly rain in the valley with temperatures in the low 40s.
All eyes are on Sunday evening into Sunday night with the chance of snow increasing as a storm system will ride up the East Coast into cold air. A trough which is a dip in the jet stream is going to form over the central part of the country and this will eventually deliver the really cold air in New England come next week.
As this trough forms, along the edge of it, there will be enough energy to form an area of low pressure that will ride up the coast and bring snow to the region. There are still some things models are trying to pinpoint like the exact track of this low-pressure system.
One scenario would be for the low pressure to ride up the East Coast and track just east of Cape Cod. This would bring moderate to heavy snow in western Massachusetts and it would be a stronger storm.
The other scenario would be a more suppressed area of low pressure that tracks more out to sea, and this would be less snow for us and a weaker storm. Most models agree that is closer to scenario one with a track up the coast.

Over the next 24 hours, the 22News Storm Team will fine-tune the minor details but for now, it would be good to dust off the snow shovels and snow blowers heading into the weekend.
