Wanted suspect captured after crossing Chicopee River to elude police

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A man with several warrants attempting to get away from officers by crossing the Chicopee River was captured using the police and fire department's boat and drone Thursday afternoon.
The Chicopee Police said when they first made contact with a man and attempted to arrest him for several outstanding warrants, he ran away, down the bank of the Chicopee River and into the water. He swam to an island to avoid arrest.

The police used a drone to track the suspect as firefighters launched a small vessel. The man was captured and placed under arrest. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation after being exposed to the water and cold weather.
