Wintry mix expected Sunday in Central Virginia, then arctic blast
Jan 17, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The StormTracker 8 Team continues to track a wintry mix for Sunday afternoon and evening, followed by an arctic blast next week.
A storm system will sweep through over the weekend, bringing this wintry mix late on Sunday, Jan. 19.
As far as accumulations are concerned, we are not looking at not very much, with all of Metro Richmond getting a dusting to 1 inch of snowfall possible.
Areas to the north and west of Richmond could see upwards of 3 inches of snowfall when it’s all set and done by Sunday evening. Further to the south and east, we will see more of a rain shower situation.
Now, onto the arctic blast expected to arrive late Sunday and last most of next week. For folks wondering what this is, an arctic blast is very cold air that originates from the Arctic or the North Pole.
This will bring very cold temperatures, for next Monday through Wednesday, possibly lingering into Thursday. In fact, these forecast highs are the coldest we have seen since January of 2018 for the Richmond area.
Remember to protect your pipes, plants, pets and people during this very cold stretch next week.
