PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Charlestown man behind the wheel in a fatal hit and run in 2022 has been sentenced in Providence Superior Court, according to Attorney General Peter F. Neronha. Aramis Segura, 33, will serve 17 years at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) after being convicted in the deadly hit and run death of 17-year-old Olivia Passaretti.  He pleaded nolo contendere to one count of driving to endanger resulting in death and one count of failure to stop after being involved in a crash that resulted in death on October 18, 2024. Segura’s co-defendant, Alicia Peckham, was previously sentenced to 10 months at the ACI for aiding and abetting, concealing the commission of a felony and obstructing an officer. The incident occurred on New Year’s Day of 2022 at approximately 12:30 a.m. when Segura was driving his Mercedes at a high rate of speed on I-95 South. He changed lanes and struck a Nissan Altima and fled the scene on foot. Passaretti’s vehicle rolled into the west shoulder of the highway and landed on its roof after hitting a tree. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Segura called Peckham at approximately 2:30 a.m. and asked her to pick him up in East Greenwich, which she did before driving him to their Charlestown home. Police later arrived searching for Segura, and Peckham denied knowing his whereabouts. Segura was found inside the home and arrested. “This is one of those cases that stays with you,” said Attorney General Neronha. “Olivia deserved so much better; to live a full life into old age. Yet, because of the reckless actions of this defendant, her loved ones are left to wonder what her life might have looked like, what might have been. Olivia’s spirit lives on through her family and friends, and I hope this sentencing provides them with some measure of peace.”   Categories: News, Rhode Island
