Metairie man accused of 2024 Kenner homicide arrested

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — A Metairie man is in police custody in connection to a 2024 homicide investigation.
According to the Kenner Police Department, on Jan. 15, 21-year-old Keith Cotton was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing 20-year-old Tyrea James that happened on Dec. 28, 2024.

Through an investigation using surveillance video, vehicle recognition technology, and cell phone records, detectives revealed Cotton's Black Nissan Altima was seen leaving the scene on the day of the crime shortly after the shooting.

Cotton was booked on charges of first-degree murder, obstruction of justice and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon due to a prior conviction of second-degree battery.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office also aided in Cotton's arrest.
"This arrest is the result of tireless efforts by our detectives and the utilization of advanced investigative technology. We remain committed to ensuring justice for the family of Tyrea James and maintaining safety in our community," said Chief Keith Conley.
