Suspect Arrested For 2023 Homicide

A 19-year-old New Havener has been arrested for the Fair Haven shooting death of 29-year-old city resident Shaquille Chazz Pearson.City police spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart announced that latest city homicide arrest in an email press release sent out Thursday evening.Pearson was fatally shot in the area of East Pearl Street and Grand Avenue back on Nov. 14, 2023 at around 4:41 p.m. Responding to 911 calls, officers found Pearson lying in the roadway of East Pearl, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he died.“Detectives were able to determine that the shots came from a black Volkswagen Tiguan which had been stolen from Hamden,” Bruckhart wrote. “That vehicle was located the same night in North Haven, where it had been abandoned.”Det. Christopher Stroscio was assigned the case. He secured an arrest warrant for a 19-year-old New Havener. That warrant was served on Wednesday.The arrestee has been charged with Murder, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit and Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine. He is being held on a $4 million bond.Bruckhart said the police department will hold a press conference about the arrest in this homicide on Jan. 22.
