SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A Sumter teenager was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 16, for threatening to commit a shooting at a Sumter County high school. Sumter County deputies say the teen made the threats on social media, threatening to “shoot the school up”. Deputies say they received a call from the FBI National Threat Operations Center around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, and responded to the teen’s home and school. According to authorities the 17-year-old did not have ant weapons on him, and said the threat was a joke, as they often used “dark humor”. “When it comes to the safety of our children, no so-called, “joke,” will be taken lightly,” said the sheriff. Investigators found further communication in the juvenile’s possession that concerned them. The teen was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice (SCDJJ) in Columbia to be petitioned before Family Court. The teen is charged with threatening schools, and unlawful communication. Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis is asking all parents to monitor their children’s activity on the internet. Categories: Local News, Sumter Tags: Sumter County Sheriff’s Department
