ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – Isle of Palms city leaders will soon have a public celebration for the completion of a new public dock. Councilmembers voted in September 2020 to create a public dock and greenspace in an area that was once leased to a commercial water sports operation at the city’s marina. Also included is an ADA-compliant gangway, and kayak and stand-up paddleboard launch access. “Our public dock was designed to promote community engagement, provide more activities for guests and enhance our coastal environment,” said IOP Mayor Phillip Pounds in a news release Friday morning. “Every individual and family are welcome to stop by and enjoy a variety of recreational activities by our serene waterways.” While the dock is open every day from sunrise to sunset, the city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the space at the Isle of Palms Marina on the morning of February 7. The community is invited to attend. Guests can currently access the public dock for free on a first-come, first-served basis. Planning for the greenspace is ongoing.
