There’s a lot of moving and shaking happening in the Baltimore restaurant world these days, from openings and (unfortunately) closings to pop-ups and novel events. Here’s a look at what’s on tap this week:Openings & announcementsBlü Cā, a Jamacain restaurant from the group behind Island Spice and KŌNŌKŌ, will open in Baltimore Peninsula early next year.Costa’ Inn is expanding north. The famous crabhouse is taking over the Nick’s Grandstand space at the Timonium Fairgrounds.Union Hill Kitchen & Craft Bar is poised to open soon in the former Blue Hill Tavern space. The restaurant is now hiring. A new Mexican spot, Caliente, has opened on York Rd. in Towson. Happy anniversary to Costiera, which turned one last week. The restaurant is celebrating its birthday with a party on Thursday, Jan. 23. Kitsch Café’s R. House hours have expanded, starting this week, lasting from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. With the new hours also come new menu items, including happy hour snacks.Sadly, Fells Point has had some tough news this week. After six years as part of the community, Riptide closed its doors after business on Wednesday and later this week, Bondhouse Kitchen is closing after four years in business. Bondhouse is going out with a bang, though – with a big farewell party the night of Friday, Jan. 17. There is some good news in the neighborhood, though, with plans for a new restaurant from the owner of Sakoon Indian Fusion to open in the Jimmy’s Restaurant space, and a new hotel, the William Fell, slated to open later this spring. Cureate winnersCongratulations to Boyd Cru Wines, Byrd’s Nest Box and Wildberry Farm + Market on taking home the grand prize and two community prizes, respectively, as part of the most recent cohort of the Cureate Courses program.Cureate Courses is a 10-week educational program for local farm, food and beverage entrepreneurs. These three organizations won their awards after finishing the program then making pitches for their businesses at the Maryland’s Best Expo.  Nostalgia DinerOn Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan 18, H3irloom Food Group is popping up with a fun venture: Nostalgia Diner. The diner pop-up, which debuted during the holiday season, takes over the former Johnny Rockets space in the Harborplace Light Street Pavilion, offering H3irloom’s creative takes on classic comfort food. Purple hazeThis is a big weekend for Baltimore football fans – and local restaurants are finding a lot of ways to make it an especially fun one.At Ethel’s Creole Kitchen in Mt. Washington, there will be drink specials every time the Ravens score and courses for each quarter. A few spots have special Ravens-themed drinks on the menu, like a Purple Negroni at Cindy Lou’s Fish House and a Ravens Purple Victory cocktail at Rusty Scupper. Dry SundaySunday, Dutch Courage and Fadensonnen are co-hosting the Dry January Classic, a ‘spirit-free cocktail competition.’ Tickets gain entry to both venues, where there will be oysters, live music, and a bunch of great Baltimore bartenders throwing down to see who can make the best zero-proof cocktail.Also on Sunday, Bunny’s is hosting its first ever N/A industry night event, starting at 5 p.m. The event is open to everyone – not just those in the restaurant industry – and was organized in response to the great reaction they’ve gotten to their N/A cocktails. Restaurant WeeksAtlas Restaurant Group’s restaurant week event starts Jan. 17 and Live! Casino’s promotion begins on Jan. 19.Plus, the city’s main event, Baltimore Restaurant Week, organized by Visit Baltimore and Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, begins on Jan. 24. As always, there are tons of local restaurants participating, offering prix fixe breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner choices at a variety of price points.Down Under Wine DinnerOn Thursday, the team from Elkridge Furnace Inn is celebrating all things Aussie with a wine dinner featuring Australian wines paired with dishes inspired by the region – think matchups like Penfolds Shiraz with lamb chops, rice and golden beets. Wine night at CitronOn Friday evening, Citron welcomes Damien Lehoux, the Director of Sales at Elite Wines. Lehoux will be available for discussion and will be opening bottles of wine from multiple regions in France. During the evening, guests can enjoy different wines by the glass and order from the a la carte menu or try a tasting menu with wine pairings. Lunar New YearLunar New Year falls on Jan. 29 this year, but Guinness Open Gate Brewery is getting a jump on the holiday with the release of Midnight Harmony, a black rice lager with calamansi puree on Friday, Jan. 24.The beer is the first effort from Guinness’s new Community Beer Project, in which Guinness partners with cultural groups to create beers that focus on traditions and stories from different communities.Planning for the futureMark your calendars for:Jan. 25: Harbor Point Winter FestivalJan. 25: Krautfest at Gertrude’s Feb. 5: Omakase Dinner at Azumi
