Community Cat Companions announced it has received a $4,000 grant from the ASPCA as part of the Subaru Loves Pets Grants program to support a month-long adoption event, in collaboration with its local Subaru retailer, Adventure Subaru of Painesville, according to a release from the group. This partnership enabled Community Cat Companions to host adoption events throughout the month of October, including the Homeward Bound adoption event hosted in the new car showroom at Adventure Subaru, the release stated. Community Cats Adventure Subaru generously donated $100 for each cat or kitten adopted during the event, up to $3,100. Over 25 kitten adoptions were made possible by the generous grant and donation, according to the release. Kittens are encountered during the Community Cat Companions Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) initiatives, a mission to reduce the feral and homeless cat population by managing existing colonies and preventing future litters. During these efforts, kittens are cared for in foster homes to properly prepare them for adoptable homes. This adoption make-ready process is costly, the release said. Each kitten undergoes the following prior to being put up for adoption: – Spay/Neuter – Vaccinations – FIV/FeLV Testing – Parasite Control – Microchipping. “With the generous support of wonderful organizations like the ASPCA and our partner Adventure Subaru, we are able to save the lives of these animals and find them loving, forever homes.” Cindy Valerio, executive director, Community Cat Companions, said in the release. “Events like Homeward Bound and Subaru Loves Pets month demonstrate their dedication to supporting animal welfare in our area.” About Community Cat Companions According to the release: Community Cat Companions is a nonprofit animal welfare organization and serves as the parent organization of Lake County Community Cats. Since 2015, these groups have sterilized, vaccinated, returned or assisted in the placement of more than 6,000 cats throughout Lake and Ashtabula Counties through TNR services. TNR is considered the most humane method of helping to control the overpopulation of homeless and feral cats. Cats and the communities where they live benefit when people work together to reduce the numbers.
