Weather forecast: Warmer air before rain, snow, and a blast of cold
Jan 17, 2025
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Warmer air incoming today as temperatures are already in the 30s. There will be some partial sun today that helps melt the snowpack.
A large system that extends from Canada to Florida will move east Saturday. This brings us snow showers at first that switch over to a rain/snow mix throughout the day. It's tough to see any significant accumulation if temperatures continue to warm into the middle and even upper 30s. Once this passes east, we begin a tumble toward colder temperatures as numbers fall into the 20s. There will be flakes around here, but it's unlikely that it amounts to much as forcing is weak.
More cold air Monday will lead to some lake effect. This could impact Monroe County and Western New York, but the focus will be east of the lakes. Temperatures keep falling with wind chills below zero and high temperatures struggling to get to 20°. Tuesday and Wednesday we bottom out in temperatures with lows near zero and highs in the low teens. Wind chills run well below zero. Snow stays east of the lakes, and we see a slow warm up going into the end of the week. Next chance for area-wide snow comes Thursday and Friday.
