FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man is dead after crashing into a semi-truck Thursday afternoon at the intersection of South and Cedar avenues in Fresno, and the California Highway Patrol is urging drivers to be careful when approaching an intersection. "Both vehicles entered the intersection at the same time and the pickup collided with the right front of the tractor-trailer," Sgt. Dustin Dimmer with the California Highway Patrol said. CHP urge tire upkeep after overturn crash in Madera County On Thursday at 1:25 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said a 74-year-old man was driving a white Mazda pickup truck west on South Avenue when he ran a stop sign. "The pickup continued into the vineyard on the northeast side of the field," Dimmer said.  Dimmer said at the same time a commercial Kenworth truck was driving through the intersection. "We had a tractor-trailer traveling northbound on Cedar, approaching south with no stop sign about 50 miles an hour," Dimmer said. That's when CHP said both vehicles crashed causing the semi to crash into the front yard of a home. "The tractor-trailer continued northbound and then also to the east side of the field into a four-front house, front yard, taking out a fence and hitting a parked car," Dimmer said.  Dimmer said the driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. The 61-year-old driver of the Kenworth was brought to Community Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries.  "There's postings 'stop sign ahead,' 'stop sign.' So, it should have been seen. It's unfortunate that we don't know what happened," Dimmer said.  He said the family inside the home are all okay.  "If you're approaching an intersection, still keep your head on a swivel looking both ways and be prepared," Dimmer said.  The California Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s assistance in gathering information about the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fresno Area CHP at 559-262-0400.   The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this collision remains ongoing.
