SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The coolest showdown in the south is back! The Publix Savannah Hockey Classic is sliding back into action, bringing rivalries to the rink at Enmarket Arena to face off for the Ghost Pirate's Cup. Things are about to heat up on the ice! A tradition that has spanned more than 20 years continues at Enmarket Arena. Fans will see four top teams from the South—Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Tennessee—battle it out for the Ghost Pirate's Cup. The Publix Savannah Hockey Classic is back for its 26th year, bringing the excitement of collegiate ice hockey to Enmarket Arena on January 17th and 18th. A portion of the excitement includes the Georgia Ice Dawgs continuing their tradition of visiting patients at Memorial Hospital this morning before the tournament begins. This historic event has been a staple since 1999, when it was known as the Memorial Health Hockey Classic. Georgia Tech claimed the first cup, but the Georgia Ice Dawgs have dominated in recent years claiming 10 championship wins, including last year's victory over Florida. Now operated by the Savannah Ghost Pirates, this year's event promises to keep the tradition alive while growing the love of hockey in the South. Tonight kicks off with Tennessee facing Florida at 6 p.m., followed by a heated rivalry game between Georgia and Georgia Tech at 8:30 p.m. The action will continue tomorrow where all four teams will play once more with the third-place game at 5:30 p.m. and championship showdown at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are budget-friendly, starting as cheap as $22, with the most expensive ticket currently at $36. Whether you're a die-hard hockey fan or just looking for a fun weekend event, the hockey classic is the place to be.
