Warmest in 2 weeks today; polar plunge headed in
Jan 17, 2025
This morning will bring a dry start with mainly clear skies, as temperatures hover in the middle 20s. Some patchy fog will be in spots but no advisory at this time. If you drive through a heavier pocket of fog, be aware of some black ice that could be underfoot!
Today will be the warmest in over two weeks. With sunshine in the forecast and south, southeast winds at 12-18 mph...afternoon highs should reach the lower 40s. It's the warmest day since Jan. 2 (41°) or the warmest day of 2025, so far!
Late this evening, rain chances will advance across the state, while temperatures hold in the middle 30s overnight. Before sunrise, a cold front will pass across the state and bring a brief period of slushy snow before tapering off to flurries through the afternoon. Slushy accumulations will be light and mainly confined to grassy areas, as temperatures will be too "warm" for any real issues.
Polar air will begin to push in on Sunday. This will kick-start gusty winds and lake-effect snow showers across the state, while temperatures continue to fall through the entire day. Roads will slicken up in spots with brief but intense snow showers (accumulations up to 1"), while temperatures hover in the teens.
Brutal air settles in through Wednesday morning with low temperatures dropping to the coldest air since January 2018.
