HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The man arrested and charged with murdering a 16-year-old girl and 20-year-old man in Hillsborough made his first appearance in court Thursday, just hours after he was arrested while on the run for over two weeks. Now, family members of victims are relieved to hear 19-year-old Kenyon Cameron is finally caught. A judge confirmed he is not eligible to receive bond.  Police arrested Cameron during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon. This arrest came more than two weeks after officers responded to Cardinal Drive, where they found 16-year-old Zikera Wardlow and 20-year-old De’Anthony Morgan shot dead in a car. CBS 17 spoke with Morgan's mom on FaceTime from the courthouse. "I'm feeling relieved because he's off the street, but I'm still hurt because at the same time. He took my child away for a senseless act," Morgan's mother, Pamela Stevenson, said. "We've all been praying through this and getting through it together so I'm coping with it day by day." The suspect's family joined him in court Thursday, telling him to stay quiet. The judge did not allow media members to record audio during Cameron's appearance. CBS 17 tried to speak with his family afterward, but they did not want to comment. "I hope this reminds him every day the rest of his life the two people's lives that he took. I do," Stevenson said. This isn't the first time the suspect has been taken into custody. In 2023, Cameron was arrested for making social media threats at his alma mater Cedar Ridge High School. It's the same school where Wardlow — one of the victims in this latest shooting case — played basketball during her freshman year. CBS 17 asked Stevenson what she would say to the suspect.  "I hope he rots in hell," she replied. Family members of both victims still want to know the reason why their loved ones were shot and killed. They said the victims went to Bojangles before they were murdered.
