With 40 seconds left, UTEP with a 67-65 lead, Bynum hit a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Miners a five-point lead with less than a minute to go. MinerTalk: UTEP guard Ahamad Bynum. On the very next play, with the clock winding down, UTEP did not use a timeout, inbounded the ball to David Terrell Jr., Terrell Jr. took the ball up the court and passed it to Bynum. The product out of Chicago, Illinois pump faked a three-point attempt and stepped into a pull up two-point shot. Bynum nailed the shot, putting UTEP up 72-70 with 2.9 seconds left in the contest. When Liberty returned from the timeout, the Flames had to go all the way up the court with 2.9 left. Liberty put the ball into the hands of Taelon Peter, who failed to get a shot off before the buzzer went off. With the win, UTEP improved to 13-4 overall and 3-1 in Conference USA play. This was a massive win for a UTEP team that was looking to redeem itself from a 28-point loss at home to rival New Mexico State on Jan. 11. This was the first time in a decade UTEP won their Conference USA road opener. UTEP's Otis Frazier III (14 points, six points), Corey Camper Jr. (12 points, six rebounds, career-best seven assists), Terrell Jr. (seven points, career-high nine rebounds, four helpers) and Devon Barnes (10 points, two steals) buoyed Bynum. Derick Hamilton, making his first career start, registered eight points while Elijah Jones netted a season high in scoring (eight points) off the pine. Up next, UTEP will travel to Miami, Florida to take on Florida International. Miners and Panthers go head-to-head at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. MT.
