Evacuations ordered after fire erupts at Moss Landing power plant

(KRON) -- A fire has erupted at the Moss Landing Power Plant Thursday evening, officials said. The fire is at energy company Vistra's power plant in Monterey County.
The Monterey County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders for nearby areas, according to the Monterey County Department of Emergency Management. A map of the areas ordered to evacuate can be viewed below.

As of 6:30 p.m., southbound Highway 1 at Salinas Road is closed due to the fire, California Highway Patrol Santa Cruz posted on X. There is no estimated time for reopening.
The temporary evacuation point is at Castroville Recreation Center. There are full road closures as listed.
