WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The woman who became known as Wichita's "Rosie the Riveter" is celebrating a special birthday. This moment meant so much to her family and Wichita's rich aviation history. "I never thought I'd make it to 100 but here I am!" said Connie Palacioz. Connie Palacioz worked at Boeing during World War 2, riveting the B-29 and the now-refurbished "Doc." "I feel great, I feel very blessed because I could still get around, said Connie Palacioz. The Newton native and aviation icon turned 100 years old on Thursday. "We're truly blessed as a family," said Connie's daughter Tish Palacioz. Celebrating 100 years of a local Rosie the Riveter. "To have her reach this big milestone birthday, and we've been waiting for it," said Tish. It's not something a lot of people can say. "When I was driving thinking about this, there's a lot of people have turned 100," said Tish. Wichitan who lost two family members in Piatt plane crash speaks out on anniversary Especially when you're a part of a huge piece of aviation history. "But what makes Mom special has been her story as a Rosie the Riveter on the B-29," said Tish. "It's sharing the story of our history." She says it's special being a part of her journey. "We're just grateful for Doc and all the B-29 family that she has been able to share her story … We knew she worked at Boeing back during the war, but we didn't know she was a Riveter till we were contacted by Spirit," said Tish. One local riveter's history taking flight. "Today, we think about sharing her milestone," said Tish. Honoring those who risked it all. "But what's more importantly, I think we'd like to honor all of our veterans and the people that have served our country," said Tish. The family plans to have a big Mexican fiesta on Saturday, which Tish says is part of the family tradition.
