Today has continues the warming trend across the state. Tomorrow will reach the peak high temperatures for the week. A high pressure has continues to stretch over the Rocky Mountains this afternoon. The result is sinking air over the state of New Mexico. When you sink air it heats up. This has led to New Mexico seeing warmer temperatures today compared to yesterday. But this warming trend isn't over just yet. An upper level disturbance will move overtop New Mexico late tonight and very early Friday morning. This disturbance will bring a band of light rain and snow to western New Mexico. The precipitation will mainly be falling in the Gila. Throughout the very early morning on Friday the rain and snow will move northeast into Central New Mexico. Areas across central New Mexico including the Albuquerque Metro have a chance of seeing snow flurries in the morning hours of Friday. The upper air disturbance will leave New Mexico by Friday afternoon. As the disturbance moves out, upper level winds will increase over New Mexico. This will result in windy conditions across the state Friday afternoon. Gusts upwards of 50 mph are possible across southeastern New Mexico. 30-40 mph gusts are possible across central and northern New Mexico. Due to the anticipated wind gusts a Wind Advisory and a High Wind Warning are in place for portions of southeastern New Mexico tomorrow January 17th. The increasing upper level winds won't just bring a gusty afternoon, but a warm one. New Mexico has been steadily increasing in temperatures since Wednesday. Friday will be the warmest day of the week. Temperatures are forecasted to hit the 50's across Central New Mexico and the lower 60's in southern New Mexico. Saturday marks the beginning of the weekend winter storm. A weak low pressure system will dive into northern New Mexico Saturday afternoon. Along with the low, the first blast of artic air will be brought into the state. Round one of snowfall will be throughout the day on Saturday. Snowfall is expected in northern and eastern New Mexico. The heaviest snowfall is expected in northeast New Mexico. Sunday's snowfall will be much lighter than Saturday. A second and much stronger blast of artic air will move into New Mexico on Monday. This blast will bring heavier snowfall to New Mexico. Northern and northeastern New Mexico have a high forecast confidence for seeing snowfall on Monday. Central New Mexico has a lower forecast confidence. However, there is still a chance for central New Mexico and the Albuquerque Metro seeing isolated snow on Monday.
