SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Sussex residents have reported someone claiming to be a Sussex County Sheriff's deputy scamming people, particularly older people, out of money.
The Sussex County Sherriff’s Office posted a scam alert on Facebook to warn people after receiving multiple reports of a similar scam phone call. It added that this scammer is primarily targeting older people.
The scammer will claim to be a Sussex County Sheriff’s Deputy and request money from residents to help fund community events.

The sheriff’s office will not call or request money. It wants residents to be aware that this is a scam and to not give out any personal or financial information.
