BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — Gov. Maura Healey gave her State of the Commonwealth address Thursday night. In the address, Healey said that her Fiscal Year 2026 budget will focus on transportation, housing, education, and lowering costs. The governor said her office aims to invest $8 billion into the state’s transportation infrastructure to improve roads, bridges and public transit, while also stabilizing MBTA finances. For housing, Healey said that the Affordable Homes Act will turn unused property into homes, while the MBTA Communities Law allows municipalities to change zoning laws to create more housing. Healey added that changes coming to education in the state include the elimination of the MCAS test, expanding early college programs to more students, and expanded support to the 31 Community Behavioral Health Centers. The state also aims to improve primary care in the state, and Healey cited the capping of copays at $25 for diabetes, asthma and heart disease medications as one example. Finally, the governor said her administration wants to focus on economic development, specifically in life sciences, climatetech, and artificial intelligence, as well as permitting and build expanded climate infrastructure. “When we deliver results, and people are free to chase their dreams, there is no limit to how strong we can be,” Healey said. “And we can say, with pride and confidence: the state of our commonwealth is strong.” Healey’s full remarks can be found here.
