PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — If you like pizza strips and vodka, you may enjoy them combined into one. Paying homage to a beloved Rhode Island staple, the Industrious Spirit Company (ISCO), a Providence-based distillery, recently created what is believed to be the first pizza strip spirit. It's called "Li’l Rhody Pizza Strip" and is crafted from 100% organic wheat, real pizza strips from Pizza J, and spices from The Ocean State Pepper Company. "This project has been an absolute blast to work on," CEO of ISCO Manya Rubinstein said. "ISCO has two main interests: sustainable sourcing and making something that speaks creatively about where we come from. Li'l Rhody Pizza Strip does both: it uses organic wheat as its base and is a loving homage to the quirkiness and vivaciousness of our home state." "The spirit opens with an herbaceous bouquet of oregano and marjoram, followed by flavors of bright garlic, rich tomato, fresh bread and savory Italian herbs that coax your palate towards a comforting and lightly herbal finish — basically, perfection," Co-head distiller Dan Neff said. ISCO said early fans of the new vodka have also created the "Italian Stallion" shot — licking shredded cheese, taking a shot of Li’l Rhody Pizza Strip, then eating a pickled pepperoncini pepper. The distillery is also working on a pizza vodka that includes cheese for those who prefer a beverage based on a more widely-known style of pizza.
