Rapid City, S.D. (KELO) -- Students at Rapid Valley Elementary School are raising money for one of their classmates who is fighting an aggressive form of brain cancer. Suckers are a hot commodity at Rapid Valley Elementary. That's because every quarter is going to a 4th grader named Alayna. "We found out in December that one of our students was diagnosed with some aggressive brain cancer. So in order to have some help for this student, we decided to run consecutive fundraisers this week," Rapid Valley Elementary Principal Rhonda Bryan said. Student leaders are also making signs to let everyone know about the fundraisers while also sharing their support.  2 dead after drowning in Walworth County Rapid Valley Elementary wanted to find ways for everyone to get involved. With the teachers doing their own fundraiser of wearing jeans, and then students and families being able to purchase suckers for just $0.25. And on the first day there was a major success with over $900 raised for this family. Principal Bryan credits everyone in the school - from teachers and students to the office staff and PTA - for stepping up. "Selling suckers or you know, buying them or things like that. I think it's very helpful to the students to feel like they're having a part and really everybody has kind of band together to promote it, we've had all the teachers put it on Dojo. Just trying to get the word out there to provide as much help as we can," Bryan said. The Suckers for Alayna fundraiser will continue tomorrow and if there are any left over, they'll sell them next week.  If you want to help you can drop off a donation in the office. If you aren't in the area, the family also has a GoFundMe set up. That information can be found here.
