(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — With a powerful arctic front on the way this weekend and accumulating snowfall likely, the FOX21 Storm Team wanted to check in and see how the region was doing with snow. In general, snow tracking for the winter season starts right around September. September of 2024 through December of 2024 featured above-average snowfall for just about everyone across the area. Colorado Springs is more than two times ahead of schedule with numbers at the end of December pointing to 25.8 inches. One of the big reasons for the above-normal snowfall was the significant, multi-day system that the region observed back at the beginning of November. Nearly 20 inches of snow was recorded at the Colorado Springs airport between November 5 and November 8. Other notable updates include 41.6 inches of snow for Walsenburg, 20.6 inches of snow for Buena Vista, and 20.8 inches of snow for Canon City. Pueblo is also nearly 5 inches of snow above normal for September through December of 2024. One of the only sites reporting below-average snowfall during the four-month stretch is Lamar. More snow is on the way though so be sure to check back in with the FOX21 Storm Team for future updates.
