BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — A recent warm spell is good news for kids who enjoy playing outside, but it's terrible for a team of snow artists working in Bismarck. The group, known as Team North Dakota Snow Sculpting, is busy at work in front of the North Dakota Heritage Center. They're chiseling away a snow mold to form a 3D snow globe. The group members will spend the next two days crafting their winter-time creation. Bismarck Police Department mourning loss of Officer Clint Fuller They also travel around to sculpting competitions, including one later this month in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. "The extreme cold makes for a highly detailed sculpture. The warmer it is, the more like that snowball snow, we call that mashed potatoes, we want it cold enough where you have to use sharp tools to carve it," Mike Nelson said. "If you can shape it with your hands, it's bad news for what we want to do." On Saturday evening, the team will light up their snow globe for people to see. On Sunday, they're also inviting families out to try sculpting two more forms that are prepped in front of the heritage center. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
