ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the week is the McQuaid boys swimming team. Last week, McQuaid defeated Canandaigua 93-90 after starting the meet down 14 points due to not having divers in the competition. "We don't have any divers, so we went down after diving, and it was kind of one of those things. It was like, you can't really mess up that much," Luke McCormack said. "You've just got to win everything." Against Canandaigua, McQuaid won 10 of 12 races, including a first-place finish from Ian Miller who shattered a 30-year-old pool record in the backstroke with a time of 53.38. The Knights continued their success on Tuesday, competing against Honeoye-Falls Lima where they earned the 101-76 win. The team took 11 out of 12 events and Miller broke two pool records in the butterfly and the backstroke. "I never know I have the record, it's always in the back of my head," Miller said. "What I'm doing in practice is kind of focusing on trying to reach them and break them." Luke McCormack was a quadruple winner against Canandaigua. He was a part of two winning relays as well as the 100 free and the 200 free. He also won both the 50 free and 500 free against HFL. Ben Hinds also contributed to McQuaid's success and is now state qualified for every individual event except the 500 freestyle. He has more state qualifying times than any other boys swimmer in Section V, and he also broke the 200 IM pool record at HFL. Xavier Joseph also added a recent win, taking the 50 freestyle at Canandaigua. "In swimming, I guess we're sort of blessed and cursed," Joseph said. "It's impossible to sort of disadvantage our teammates, it's all within yourself." Congratulations to Coach Michael Walsh and the McQuaid Knights for earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
