FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A truck driver is dead after CHP says he went through a stop sign and collided with a big rig, causing the truck to end up off the road and the big rig to come to a stop in the front yard of a home.
The crash took place at around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Cedar Avenue and South Avenue, west of Fowler.
Officers say the pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed, down from the high-speed rail overpass on South Avenue, approaching a stop sign. At the time time, a big rig was traveling northbound on Cedar Avenue, approaching South Avenue but did not have a stop sign.
According to the CHP, both vehicles went into the intersection at the same time and the pickup collided with the front of the big rig.
The pickup ended up in a vineyard and the big rig ended up in the front yard of a nearby home and crashed into a parked car. It appears that the big rig narrowly missed the home itself.
The driver of the pickup died at the scene; the driver of the big rig was uninjured. Officers say that there were no passengers in either vehicle.
The identities of those involved in the crash have not been officially released.
The investigation is ongoing.
